The new Samsung Galaxy S25 runs on One UI 7, Samsung’s version of Android 15. That new software does not appear to be coming to the S23 and S24 for now.
The Galaxy S25 was released earlier this year and comes with a lot of new AI features. Those features are part of One UI 7, the software also coming to Samsung’s older top devices. With that, a lot of new features are also coming to the Galaxy S24 and S23 series, among others.
It was originally expected that this would happen in early February, about the same time that the S25 series would also hit the shelves. That is now the case, but the older devices have not yet received an update. And that may just take some time, which is bad news for those with such a device.
Samsung still coming out with beta version first
Indeed, Ice Universe, an X user who writes about Samsung more often, shared on Friday that a fourth beta version of One UI 7 is coming first for the Galaxy S24 series. That suggests that the final version is not going to be released anytime soon. He wrote nothing about an update for the Galaxy S23 series.
On top of that, Samsung has begun rolling out a new security patch. That update will fix a vulnerability in Android, Forbes writes. That we don’t have to expect One UI 7 in the near future yet is made even more plausible by the fact that Samsung is rolling out that patch first.
Only the S25 runs on One UI 7
So if you want to use One UI 7 right now, you will have to make do with a test version that may still have bugs. Or you’ll have to buy a new Samsung Galaxy S25. In fact, at the moment the devices in that series are the only devices running the stable version of One UI 7. However, an update for older devices is still expected to arrive in the first quarter.
On social media there is a lot of criticism of Samsung for the slow rollout of the new version of Android 15 for devices from the Korean manufacturer. In fact, other well-known brands already have updates available to Android 15, even for budget devices.
