Elon Musk threatens tough competition iPhone and Android smartphones

Although Elon Musk continues to tweet happily from his iPhone, that doesn’t necessarily mean it will always be this way in the future. In fact, the infamous entrepreneur could just be competing with the iPhone and various Android phones in the future. Why? Because danger lurks.

You would think at some point someone would have his or her plate full. Elon Musk currently heads Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter, and in the meantime, he already seems to be cooking up the next project. What that next project entails: an alternative smartphone for Android and iPhone.

Elon Musk coming up with iPhone alternative?

What Musk tweets often comes across as very random without context. But there is an obvious reason he is putting this out into the world. Namely, it was suggested on Twitter that Musk should just start making his own smartphones when Twitter disappears from the Google Play and App Store. His response to that tweet surprised no one.

Twitter is not loading because you did not give permission.

I certainly hope it does not come to that, but, yes, if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone

“I hope it doesn’t come to it,” the entrepreneur opens his tweet. “But yes, if there’s no other option, I’ll make an alternative smartphone.” Liz Wheeler suggested the idea, adding that “half the country” is happy to trade in its “biased, snooping iPhone and Android.”

Twitter is in trouble

This tweet also traces its origins to the problems Elon Musk has been dealing with since taking over Twitter. Not only are there financial problems and a lot of employees leaving, there is also the hassle regarding freedom of speech on the platform. That could cost the app its head.

Musk wants to make Twitter an open platform, by not excluding anyone. But in the meantime, that ensures that a mostly right-leaning group of users seems to be taking over the platform. And that may go down the wrong way with Google and Apple, who are responsible for Google Play and the App Store.

Should things get out of hand, they may decide to pull the app from the download stores.
