Since 2019, the smartphone market has been particularly interesting. Not because of models with the current form factor, but precisely because of models like the Samsung Galaxy Fold that show new possibilities. Still, around those particular devices, there are some frustrations here and there. The Google Pixel Fold, fortunately, puts an end to that.
During Google I/O 2023, the developer conference taking place in May this year, we are likely to see the first Pixel Fold unveiled. A foldable Android smartphone with impressive specifications and a not too crazy price tag.
Google Pixel Fold tackles problem Samsung Galaxy Fold
Pleasant, if you ask me. Although I’ve become quite a fan of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold over the past few years, I have to honestly admit that the price tag gets in the way of a great success. Something that also certainly applies to the smartphones from OPPO and Huawei, among others.
That Google, with its Pixel Fold, is going to do something about that is cool. After all, the foldable Android smartphone is reportedly getting a significantly lower price tag, which could finally bring the concept to the masses.
The news comes from reliable source Yogesh Bear. In a post on Twitter, he shares the prices that, according to sources familiar with the matter, will be applied later this year.
Therefore, should this actually be the case, we may soon be able to snag a foldable Android smartphone for up to 1,399 euros. A price point at which mainly the top devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, sit.

Is it the future?
Although the big success is yet to come, I have actually been calling out since 2019 that foldable smartphones are the future. I have received many comments on that over the years, but I still firmly believe in it anno 2023.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold was a rock-solid prototype that has since become a complete product. A product where only the price tag still stands in the way of its great success.
So it’s wonderful to see that the Google Pixel Fold is going to change that. Although, of course, practice still has to show how good that decision is at this point.
