It took a while, but since last year the Google Pixel is finally officially on sale in the Netherlands. So with the launch of the Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 7, the party can begin here as well.
The cost of the Google Pixel 7 Pro
Google’s smartphone stands out by offering incredibly good specifications at a relatively affordable price. Especially when compared to competitors like the Samsung S23 and the iPhone 14 line. But does Google make a hefty profit on sales?
Smartphone makers like Apple and Samsung are not too eager to tell how much they earn per device. Google, too, is keeping its jaws tightly shut about the Pixel 7 Pro. Fortunately, there are always research firms willing to find out, in this case Counterpoint Research.
Therefore, we now know exactly how much it cost Google to make the phone. To do this, it has added up the various prices of the components and thus estimated the cost to produce a phone. Something, by the way, that also happens with models from Apple and Samsung. Is everything a profit?
According to Counterpoint, the Google Pixel 7 Pro costs 384 euros to make. So that’s just the parts. Of course, developing a phone does cost a bit more money. For example, research costs and the marketing budget are not included.
In the Netherlands, taxes like VAT are then added on top. So you can’t say that Google picks up over 500 euros profit per device on the Pixel 7 Pro, since the recommended retail price is 899 euros.

What stands out about the survey is that Android competitor Samsung is the big winner with the Google Pixel 7 Pro. That may sound odd, but it actually makes a lot of sense. The Galaxy S23 maker supplies several components for the device. Consequently, 51 percent of production costs go to Samsung.
Most of that cost is for the screen (20 percent). Samsung also supplies the modem, camera sensors and various chips, among other things. Interestingly, Google is only responsible for 7 percent of the cost of the components. This mainly involves the Tensor G2 processor that the company develops itself.
