Huawei has come up with a new way to transfer files from one device to another. If you thought Apple’s AirDrop was already magic, this will surprise you all over.
There are plenty of ways to move files from one device to another these days. For example, you can send them to yourself through a messaging service, and open the chat on another device to download the files. Or nice and old-fashioned: you use a cable. You can also use wireless solutions such as Quick Share on Android an AirDrop on Apple devices. Huawei has now come up with something different.
At the Chinese company, they must have transfer options we already have are all a bit boring. So Huawei is now introducing an option to move files from one device to another with a hand gesture. The so-called AI Teleportation feature works on the new Mate 70 devices, Mate X6, and MatePad Pro 12.3 tablet. Those new devices are not yet on sale in the Netherlands.
Huawei’s AI Teleportation lets you ‘grab’ files
But that doesn’t make the feature, which for now only lets you move photos and screenshots, any less bold. You spread your hand in front of your screen and make a fist. Your device’s screen then shows you “grabbing” a file. Then you move your clenched fist to another screen, and spread your fingers again, and the file is released. Done.
As mentioned, we can’t do anything with it yet, given that the devices that support the feature are not available in the Netherlands. Still, it could just be that other manufacturers have been given ideas by Huawei’s move to make similar features, Android Authority writes.
Fewer intermediate steps
At least the feature makes it even more accessible to transfer or share files with others. Many existing methods require users to take several steps before a file is moved from place A to place B. All those intermediate steps are a thing of the past when you can literally grab files and put them somewhere else.
This is not the first time this year that Huawei has attracted attention. Earlier this year, the company came out with the Mate XT Ultimate Design. That phone has multiple folds and a huge screen.
