iOS 16 is going to confirm this iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max functionality

Next week is the day: WWDC 2022. Apple kicks off its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, June 6 with a keynote in which we get to know the company’s new software. This includes iOS 16: the operating system for, among others, the new iPhone 14.

However, that operating system confirms a functionality that was previously discussed. According to sources of Mark Gurman, journalist of Bloomberg, Always-on is really coming our way.

iOS 16 offers support for Always-on

Like the Apple Watch, the iPhone 14 should also get an Always-on display. This rumor has been going around for quite some time, but now it is also confirmed by Mark Gurman’s sources. According to the sources, iOS 16 will bring support for the functionality. So it could just be that we will find out more about the feature as early as next week.

It’s not surprising that Apple chose to implement Always-on on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. According to Gurman, the functionality should actually have been in the iPhone 13 already. This smartphone features a so-called LTPO display, which allows for better gaming with a variable refresh rate. The ProMotion support prevented this earlier.

Thanks to an LTPO display, it is theoretically possible to make the refresh rate of your iPhone 14 more variable. It can vary between 120Hz and 1Hz. Something needed to make an Always-on display that doesn’t consume too much power.

The new iPhone 14

Whereas iOS 16 will show itself next week, the iPhone 14 will be waiting until the fall. Still, more and more details about the smartphone have come out in recent months. For example, the iPhone 14 will reportedly get a new selfie camera that will cost Apple quite a bit more money and will also feature a smaller notch.
