Is the best Android phone of 2024 just not on

Is the best Android phone of 2024 just not on sale?

During MWC, Tecno showed off the Camon 30 Premier 5G. This is an impressive Android smartphone, but the chances of you seeing it in real life are extremely slim.

At WANT, we like to have the best of the best. So we test quite a few smartphones to see if they really deliver on their promises.

Yet that’s probably not going to happen with an Android smartphone: the Tecno Camon 30 Premier 5G. Why exactly that is, we tell you.

Tecno’s impressive Android smartphone

The Tecno Camon 30 Premier 5G managed to impress quite a bit during MWC 24 in Barcelona. This was mainly due to the device’s great camera. The photos were extremely sharp.

Inside this Android device is a 50-megapixel camera with a Sony IMX890 1/1.56-inch sensor. It also has image stabilization, an f/1.88 aperture and a pixel size of 1.0μm. In addition, the sensor also enhances low-light photos.

But that’s certainly not the only 50-megapixel camera on this Android device. On the back are also a wide-angle and macro camera. The latter can even bring objects as small as 2.5 centimeters into sharp focus.

On the front is also a 50-megapixel camera. This has an eye-tracking function and can record videos at 4K60fps. So it’s ideal if you want to record videos of yourself for TikTok, for example.

Much more to offer

Anyway, a smartphone is more than just a camera. Other things are also extremely good. For example, this model has a 6.78-inch 144Hz Amoled display. Under the hood is a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate 5G chip, you have access to 24GB of RAM and 512GB of flash memory.

The battery of this Android device has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. You can charge it at lightning speed because it supports 70W charging. This allows Tecno’s smartphone to be 50 percent charged in 16 minutes.

Of course, AI features are not to be missed. Among other things, AI allows users to change the background and their voice while video calling, and there are also various filters present. On photos, in turn, you can remove unwanted objects, which you may know from the Samsung and Google phones. In addition, this Android phone helps take AI generated photos of yourself.

That all sounds great and perhaps you would like this phone. Yet there is a problem, because the chances of actually getting your hands on this one are minuscule. Not because it’s not being made, but because it’s just not being sold in the Netherlands and other Western countries.

Why you can’t score Tecno’s Android phones in the Netherlands

Tecno chooses to release its smartphones and products only in emerging countries. For example, the company focuses mainly on the Asian market, but also sells its Android phones in Eastern Europe and Africa.

When we asked the company during MWC if there were also plans to come to the West, the company said it did not have any yet. And that’s quite a shame, since the company makes some delightful Android phones at considerably lower prices than we’re used to here.

Moreover, the company also showed several interesting concept phones during MWC. For example, the brand is also working on a phone with a roll-out screen. This way you no longer need a folding phone for more views. The big advantage of this is that you no longer see a crease in the middle, although there is still work to be done. But yes, whether that phone will ever come to the West remains to be seen.
