Is your iPhone alarm clock not working? Here’s what could be going on

Do you have an alarm clock next to your bed? Then you really are one of the few. Many people these days use their smartphone’s alarm. But what if that feature doesn’t work on your iPhone? WANT editor Jeroen Kraak helps you out.

The sound of the alarm on your iPhone is usually incredibly irritating. With that, it does achieve its goal: to wake you up, because that awful tone makes you sit up straight in bed. Still, it far from always succeeds, and that’s a problem. Fortunately, it can be solved just fine.

iPhone alarm doesn’t work

It can be a big problem when your iPhone’s alarm doesn’t work. Of course, you don’t want to oversleep for work or that one important appointment. Yet that can happen just like that if your alarm doesn’t work.

This mainly has to do with the ringer volume and you control that via the buttons on the side. If you have these completely off, the same applies to your alarm clock.

If you still want to hear the alarm clock only and nothing else, the best way to do this is to set your phone to silent via the slider above the volume buttons. Set the volume to a higher setting, however. That way you really won’t miss the alarm clock.

The volume buttons also allow you to turn your alarm clock up or down. Handy if it goes way too loud first thing in the morning and that immediately creates an intense morning mood.

Possible solutions

Are you not hearing your alarm on your iPhone or is it not working properly? If so, take the following steps first:

Check how high the volume is. So you do this with the buttons on the side.
Perhaps you have set your alarm clock only to vibrate and therefore you do not hear it. Check what is ticked on the alarm. Turn off “none” if
Are your headphones still connected to your iPhone? Then your alarm will be played through that device. If it is still paired when you go to sleep, you may not hear your alarm. So check your Bluetooth connections as well.
Have you checked everything and it’s not working? Then it might help to close and restart the menu where the alarms can be found.
If none of that helps, it would be wise to contact Apple.
