Motorola gets Android 15, but where does that leave Samsung?

A new version of Android always comes first on the Google Pixel. Samsung is usually second, but this year it’s Motorola.

It makes sense that Android 15 would appear first on the Google Pixel. This is the factory version, with no modifications that other smartphone manufacturers often do. Moreover, like Android, the Pixel is made by Google itself, which is a simple addition.

Normally, Samsung is always the second manufacturer to roll out the new Android version, but not this time. Surprisingly, Motorola is going with it, at least if you have an Edge 50.

Motorola is the first to have Android 15 after the Google Pixel.

The first Motorola smartphone to get Android 15 is the Edge 50 Fusion. And that is notable, since this is not Motorola’s flagship smartphone; that honor goes to the Edge 50 Ultra and the Razr 50 Ultra.

Anyway, so the Edge 50 Fusion is the first, as reported by several happy users on Reddit. The update is named V1UUI35H.6 and Android 15 takes a size of 1.8 GB. Another user reports that the update has also appeared on the Edge 50 Pro. When the other Motorola smartphones will follow is still a mystery, but presumably not for long.

On the contrary, it is notable that Motorola is one of the first brands to roll out the Android 15 update. In fact, it has been one of the last brands to increase the number of Android updates. At the launch of the Edge 50 Ultra and Razr 50 Ultra, it was announced that the devices would receive only three years of updates. That was little for devices costing toward $1,000 or more, while competitors offered more updates. Motorola has since extended this to five-year updates.

Where does that leave Samsung?

As mentioned, Samsung was normally always the second brand to release a new Android version. However, the company always adds its own layer, One UI, to Android. This year, One UI 7 is scheduled to be released. Yet there is something strange about it, because the beta has not even been announced yet. That while Nothing, for example, has already rolled out a beta version.

According to rumors, Samsung should come out with that version by the end of the year. For now, unfortunately, it is mostly a matter of patience for owners of Samsung smartphones.
