New iPhone may come out next week

Are you looking for a new cheaper iPhone? If so, good news may be coming next week.

The iPhone 16 line was introduced last year. Of course we saw improvements there again, but with a starting price of 969 euros, it is still a pricey investment.

Apple therefore comes out with an SE, or cheaper variant, once every few years. Again this year, and maybe even next week.

Apple is coming out with a cheaper iPhone

If Bloomberg is to be believed, Apple is going to announce more about the iPhone SE on Feb. 11. So it is a nice pre-Valentine’s Day gift from Apple, should the reports be true. By the end of February, then, the device should be delivered.

Bloomberg is often reliable when it comes to Apple news, so it just might be. The last iPhone SE dates back to 2022, so the time seems ripe for a new model. One that looks different from what you’re used to.

According to rumors, the iPhone SE will get a full touchscreen. The previous version still had a physical home button, similar to the iPhone 8. In turn, the new SE, codenamed V59, would resemble the iPhone 14.

The iPhone 14 means that on this model there is no Dynamic Island, or notch at the top where you can see messages. It also has only one camera on the back instead of two.

Here’s what to expect

OK, so the iPhone SE doesn’t have that. Let’s talk mostly about what the device does have. It gets the same chip as the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, and that’s an important detail. This makes it fast enough to support Apple Intelligence, or Apple’s AI. This is also interesting for Dutch users, because although Apple Intelligence already works in the United States, it will do so in the Netherlands starting in mid-April.

In addition to the same chip, the SE also gets 8 GB of RAM. That’s the minimum to run Apple Intelligence. There may also be Apple’s new 5G chip on the inside. This is the first time Apple is developing it itself, instead of the Snapdragon variant the company always used before.

How much the iPhone SE will cost remains to be seen. The previous version of the smartphone cost $529, but presumably this one will be slightly more expensive.
