OnePlus and Oppo set to ‘make history’ in smartphone field

OnePlus and parent company Oppo are gearing up for a big announcement. The two companies are hinting at a historic moment in Android smartphones.

On Weibo, the Chinese counterpart of Twitter, the two companies are giving a small preview. It would involve the announcement of an imposing display that will be used in the company’s future smartphones.

OnePlus and Oppo want to make history

“A historic moment for Chinese displays.” That’s how OnePlus and Oppo are publicizing next week’s announcement.

The two parties, which fall under the same parent company, are joining forces with manufacturer BOE to produce the display. But exactly what it will mean for us as users is not yet officially clear.

Leaker Digital Chat Station, which is usually well-informed, thinks OnePlus and Oppo are coming out with a higher brightness for displays. According to sources, the maximum brightness will be 3000 nits.

Currently, the Oppo Find X6 Pro is the Android smartphone with the highest brightness. The display of this smartphone can reach a maximum brightness of 2500 nits.

First hint at the new flagship?

Although the OnePlus Open was unveiled last week, eyes in the market are still focused on the OnePlus 12, and the big question at the moment is mainly whether this new flagship will get the higher-brightness display.

In any case, it is in line with expectations. A few months ago, a rumor appeared that the smartphone would be known for the high brightness of the display. The possibility of a maximum brightness of 3000 nits would certainly meet that expectation.

Given the lack of official information, however, that is a pretty wild guess. There is also a chance that Oppo will launch a smartphone with this functionality first.

In any case, time will tell, and patience is a virtue. In this regard, we are lucky, as the discussed announcement will take place on Oct. 24 (i.e. tomorrow).
