During the Cloud 11 event yesterday, OnePlus announced its brand new smartphone: the OnePlus 11 5G. Although the presentation carried the necessary “surprises,” it remained very quiet around a Pro variant of its new Android phone.
The big question fans of the Chinese company are logically asking is whether a Pro variant is on the horizon anytime soon. You probably won’t like the answer …
OnePlus 11 5G means the end of the Pro
For years, OnePlus introduced two different Android smartphones at the same time. In addition to the regular model, the company also announced a Pro model at the same time. Just slightly better, just slightly faster and just slightly more impressive. A pleasant strategy that suddenly went haywire last year, with the arrival of the OnePlus 10 Pro. No regular model, but a T model in the summer.
Confusing to fans, the new OnePlus 11 5G adds to the confusion. OnePlus did not unveil a Pro model yesterday, during its Cloud 11 event. According to a spokeswoman for the Chinese company, a logical choice “because you don’t need a Pro name for a device that is already Pro-ish,” he told Android Authority.
You don’t need a Pro name for a device that is already Pro
By the way, you can tell from everything that the decision is not temporary. “Starting in 2023, we will streamline our international flagship portfolio by doing away with the Pro line,” says the spokesperson. So the chances of us getting our hands on the OnePlus 12 Pro next year also seem extremely slim.
2023 to be the year of the T-model though?
It is to be hoped that you are happy with what the OnePlus 11 5G has to offer. The Android smartphone is clearly not getting a successor in the form of a Pro model, and the arrival of the T model is also in question.
According to Android Authority, it is its own understanding from OnePlus that this model too will not appear in 2023. So the only offspring of the OnePlus 11 5G this year will be the R model, which typically appears only in India.
