OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G: 7 reasons to (not) buy it

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G has been available since this month. We tell you if the device suits you, or if it’s better to leave it alone.

The Nord is one of OnePlus’ most popular smartphone lines. We first saw the Nord appear in the summer of 2020. Last summer it was the turn of the Nord 2 5G and now it’s the turn of the CE 2 5G. It’s the slightly cheaper version of the 2, but is it any less good? We’ll tell you.

Screen

The screen is one of the highlights of this device. OnePlus has in the Nord CE 2 5G has a 6.43 AMOLED panel with a revolution of 2400 by 1080. There is also a refresh rate of 90Hz and HDR10+ support. This makes it a great device to watch your series on Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max.

Performance of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G

Under the hood of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G is a MediaTek Domensity 900 chip and while on paper it is a bit less than that of the Nord 2, in practice you don’t notice much of it. The phone is responsive and that’s fine for the price range this phone is in.

Camera

While the processor may be a bit less, the same cannot be said of the camera. The Nord CE 2 5G has a 64 megapixel camera, while that of the regular 2 has only 50 megapixels. Still, the image can appear a bit flaky at times. If you take pictures during the day, the image is fine. In the evening, the image is disappointing and the night mode is not good enough to polish this.

65W charging with the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G

Is your phone’s battery dead? Then it can be pretty frustrating if you have to wait a long time until you have enough power to get through the rest of the day. With the Nord CE 2 5G you get a 65W charger included. That means for a day’s use you only need to charge for 15 minutes. Handy if you don’t have much time. If you want to fill it up completely, you’ll need a little more than half an hour. A disadvantage when charging this device is that you can’t charge it wirelessly.

Connections

Unlike its big brother the Nord 2, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G does have an SD card reader. This allows you to expand your memory more easily. What also stands out is that unlike many other models, this phone does have a 3.5mm audio jack. This allows you to use your headphones with cord. This way you do not have to worry about whether your headphones are charged.

Design

The phone looks modern, but it does have a few drawbacks. The back is made of plastic, which does not give it the most luxurious look. In addition, the camera housing on the back is quite large and the plastic makes it look even more enormous due to optical illusion.

The Price of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G

The recommended retail price of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G is 359 euros although there are of course some stores that offer it cheaper. This makes it about 40 euros cheaper than the Nord 2, which has just a bit more to offer. Perhaps you are better off buying the older brother.
