Some rumor mills get going early. Like, for example, about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 models. The South Korean company has yet to present the models before 2022, but in the meantime we are already looking at the year ahead. What can we (possibly) expect from these foldable smartphones?
Unfortunately, we don’t have a complete list of specifications for you yet. It’s really far too early for that. But that doesn’t mean that Samsung is already planning all kinds of new parts for the smartphones mentioned. Also in the area of marketing, it seems that some news has already been leaked….
Samsung sees future more bleak
The Korean publication The Elec writes that Samsung sees the future for its foldable smartphones as a bit bleaker. The targets for the number of smartphones shipped are going down, compared to last and this year. In total, Samsung aims to ship ten million foldable smartphones by 2023.

By comparison, Samsung expects to ship about fifteen million units by 2022. The adjustment may have to do with the rising cost of materials, inflation, and the war between Russia and Ukraine. Perhaps some of the issues will be resolved next year and the targets will then go up.
Some specs leaked
Now we come to the leaked specifications. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will reportedly get three cameras on the back, including a fifty-megapixel Samsung GN3 sensor. Up front, it will likely have a twelve-megapixel camera. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 may also get three cameras on the back.
Furthermore, The Elec reports that both foldable devices run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. This is likely to appear at the end of 2022. Perhaps by mid-2023 we’ll already have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2+, but we’ll see. The plans can always change, of course. So take the rumors with a grain of salt.
