Android 16 will make its appearance in 2025. Here’s when to expect the new version.
Maybe you’ve only just got Android 15 on your smartphone. But Google is prolific, and is already almost throwing out the new version of the operating system, Android 16. Why? They want to have the latest Android version ready before their new Pixel models are launched. Samsung, OnePlus and Xiaomi will follow later.
That means you can get early access to Android 16 by 2025. How early, of course, we don’t know yet, but we’ve already looked into our crystal ball. We’re making a small prediction of when you can expect the system on your smartphone.
Samsung, Pixel and OnePlus: here’s when to expect Android 16
The new operating system is coming sooner than expected. Wondering when it’s your brand’s turn? We’ve listed below how long you’ll (probably) have to wait.
Google Pixel: If you have a Pixel 6 or newer, you can test Android 16 right now via the beta version. But the official release will come in the second quarter of 2025.
Samsung: Samsung is still working on the Android 15 update (One UI 7). We expect the Android 16 beta to be rolled out only around early 2025.

OnePlus: The OnePlus 13, due out in January 2025, will likely get access to Android 16 soon. OnePlus is usually quick with beta versions, so that’s good news.
Xiaomi: Xiaomi is known to delay updates. Chances are their devices will not get Android 16 until late 2025.
Curious about the new features?
The first test versions are available for Pixels (as of the Pixel 6), but don’t get too excited. After all, there are few visible changes yet. The focus right now is mainly on improvements under the hood. Only later this year will new features be unveiled.
For other brands, it remains to be seen. We will, of course, keep an eye on developments for you. To help you prepare, read below to see what features you can expect.
