With the iPhone, we are used to the Dynamic Island by now. With the iPhone 17 Pro Max, it may suddenly look different.
With the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple first brought out the Dynamic Island. The name in particular was laughed about, but in the meantime, it has become unmissable. In fact, some Android makers have been inspired by the idea.
On the iPhone 17 Pro Max, however, Dynamic Island is going to change a bit. What exactly is going on, we’ll tell you, of course.
A different look for the iPhone 17 Pro Max
The iPhone 17 Pro Max will get a smaller Dynamic Island in September, if the reasonably reliable leaker Digital Chat Station is to be believed. This has everything to do with Face ID.
According to rumors, Apple is going to use a metal lens for Face ID in the iPhone 17 Pro Max. This integrates the transmitter and receiver components for the technology. This makes it smaller, resulting in a narrower Dynamic Island.

But the iPhone 17 Pro Max is not the only Apple device to get the technology. It would also come on the new iPad Pro and the foldable iPad, according to the leaker, which is also the subject of some rumors.
Still, it’s not just a certainty, as other leakers don’t quite agree. For example, Jeff Pu also let it be known that there will be a smaller Dynamic Island due to the new metalens. However, the noted Ming-Chi Kuo revealed in January that there will not be a smaller Dynamic Island.
Apple’s Dynamic island
Apple has devised the Dynamic Island to hide its Face ID technology. Whereas Android makers often opt for a punch-hole for their selfie camera, Apple has camouflaged it by displaying messages on it.
Still, the new iPhone SE 4, which came out last week, does not appear to be getting the Dynamic Island. With that model, Apple is still opting for the old solution we are used to from the regular iPhone 14. You can read more about that below.
