Refreshing your Android is not difficult at all. You just need to know what’s on your to-do list.
If you want your Android smartphone to perform at its best, it is important to give it some love and attention on a regular basis. Like any machine, your phone needs some maintenance to keep it functioning properly.
Not sure where to start? No worries, we have five simple tips for you to completely refresh, reorganize and customize your Android. This will keep it feeling fresh and running smoothly.
Here’s how to keep your Android smartphone fit for a long time
With a few simple tweaks, your Android already works a lot better. Here are our tips!
#1 Clean your Android smartphone completely
Every time you use your smartphone, dust or dirt accumulates in the charging ports and speakers. This can cause your Android to stop charging or sounding good after a while. So it’s important to give your phone a regular cleaning.
Take a microfiber cloth and make a mixture of water and alcohol. Gently rub the screen and back with that. Be careful not to get any moisture into the charging port. Use a toothbrush or cotton swab to remove dust from the buttons and speakers. This will make your phone look fresh and feel better immediately.

#2 Remove all apps you don’t use
Apps that you don’t use are a bit like clutter in your house: they just take up space and you have no use for them. Therefore, take some time to go through all your apps and delete the unused ones. That way, you’ll prevent your smartphone from becoming sluggish because of too little storage.
How you do that may vary from Android phone to phone. Usually you’ll see the delete option if you long-press the app icon. You can also delete apps through the Google Play Store. Open the app, go to your apps and choose the options you want to delete.
#3 Clean up old files on your Android
After you delete unused apps, you’ll want to do the same with the files you no longer use. This will free up even more storage.
For example, you quickly notice that those funny GIFs you get from friends take up quite a bit of storage space. And let’s not forget the unnecessary photos and videos you receive via WhatsApp. Use the Files app to manage your storage and clear out everything you no longer need.
What files take up the most space?
Large files are usually videos, high-resolution photos and music files. These can take up a lot of storage space. Therefore, check and manage them regularly.
#4 Optimize your device settings
This is the perfect time to scrutinize your settings and make adjustments that may have been annoying you for a while. For example, consider turning on dark mode; it not only looks nicer, but also helps save your battery.
In addition, you can set app icons not to automatically appear on your home screen to keep everything nicely organized.
#5 Check your privacy options
Finally, it is essential to check your privacy settings on your Android. Open the Settings app and navigate to Privacy > Permissions Management. See which apps have access to your personal data, such as location, contacts and camera.
If you come across an app that shouldn’t have access to it, you can revoke the permissions within the click of a button.
