This feature is indispensable if you have an iPhone and Windows computer

If you use an iPhone in combination with Windows, you don’t always have it easy. A new update changes that.

Microsoft has something great in store for anyone who uses an iPhone as well as a Windows PC. That’s because on Wednesday, the tech company announced a new feature that will soon let you share files between your iPhone and PC at lightning speed.

No more complicated detours, just a smooth connection similar to Apple’s AirDrop. Only it finally works for Windows users, too. With any luck, you can be the first to try the feature now.

The ideal feature for iPhone users with a Windows PC

The magic happens via Microsoft’s app Phone Link. This app, which already lets you view notifications and answer phone calls from your PC, is getting an update soon. If you join the Windows Insider beta program, you can test the new feature ahead of time.

In Windows, your iPhone will soon be visible as an option to send files to. Conversely, you can share files with your PC on your iPhone via the Link to Windows app. All you need is an iPhone running iOS 16 or higher and the latest versions of both the Phone Link app on Windows and the Link to Windows app on your smartphone.

For anyone who has ever tried to get a file from an iPhone to a Windows PC, this is probably music to their ears. Until now, that was often a hassle: finding cables, emailing, or using cumbersome cloud solutions. This new feature makes the process much easier and more direct, saving a lot of time.

Currently, the feature is still in beta and only available to Insider program users. But Microsoft has promised that the full release will follow soon. Both Windows 10 and 11 users will then be able to use it with their iPhones.

Step forward

The Link to Windows app is available for free download from the App Store. For more information about the Phone Link app and how to set everything up, visit Microsoft’s official website.

For those not fully into the Apple ecosystem, this is a huge step forward. You no longer have to look enviously at AirDrop users. You will soon have your own delightful option between your iPhone and Windows PC.
