Every smartphone is full of apps that overwhelm you with stimuli. This new device from Light Phone does just the opposite.
While Apple is busy making each new smartphone more and more sophisticated, other companies are going in the opposite direction. Fairphone, for example, is committed to sustainability and fair products in the electronics industry.
And Light Phone is another good example of this. The company has launched a new smartphone with an extremely minimalist design. And it has no social media on it at all. Here’s exactly how it is.
Meet the Light Phone III
Like its predecessors, the Light Phone III is designed to help users rely less on their smartphones. Thus, it does not allow you to access social media, news apps, mailboxes and Internet browsers. All you can do with this smartphone is make calls and text messages. Although it also has a calculator, alarm clock and music player.
The Light Phone III’s predecessors, the I and II, were small smartphones with a simple design. The III takes a slightly different tack. The smartphone has a slim OLED display that is a lot larger than that of previous models.
The most striking thing about the smartphone is the display. It displays only in black and white. This not only makes you experience less stimuli, but it is also pleasant for your eyes. That way you are less exposed to blue light.
It’s about as wide as modern iPhones, but much shorter. The Light Phone team says this is intentional to make texting easier when holding the device vertically.
The smartphone is hefty in price
But there is also less good news. The Light Phone III costs $800, more than double the price the Light Phone II was. That’s quite a lot of money for a smartphone that barely has any apps on it. After all, it costs you nothing to remove all the annoying apps from your current smartphone.
But there’s a deal for early adopters. If you pre-order the Light Phone III now, you can score it for half the price. The company hopes to ship the smartphones early next year. You can pre-order the device at this link.
