Although the official version of iOS 18.1 is due on iPhone, Apple has already released a developer beta for 18.2. In it are a handy feature.
The wait is on until iOS 18.1 is launched for your iPhone. If rumors are to be believed, that might happen next week.
After that, it will be the turn of iOS 18.2. To make that go smoothly, Apple is bringing that version to developers first so they can tweak their apps and check for bugs. In this, we can already see what Apple itself is planning. At least one feature is very appealing to us.
iOS 18.2 is already in development for your iPhone
In iOS 18.2, it should be much easier to set what your default apps are for certain functions on your iPhone. Think for example of your Internet browser, your e-mail program or your calling app.
These functions will all come together in a new heading under settings. This is quite appropriately called Default Apps. For example, if you prefer to use Gmail or Outlook as your default e-mail program, you can change it in this menu.

When you set up your phone in the beginning, you can very simply choose your default browser. Later on, however, it can sometimes be a bit trickier. In the new menu, you adjust that too very easily.
So far, the following standard features are represented in the menu: email, messages, calling, call filtering, browser, passwords and keyboards. So Apple is giving you even more choices on your iPhone with the new feature.
Here’s what to expect from iOS 18.1
iOS 18.1 is dominated by the launch of Apple Intelligence on the iPhone. Unfortunately, we in Europe cannot use the service. Nevertheless, there are other features coming that are interesting.
Perhaps the most important is the improvement of the AirPods Pro 2. With iOS 18.1, it will be possible to take a hearing test and adjust your AirPods to your hearing. Thus, they can improve tones you hear less well, based on that test. There is also a hearing protection feature. Ideal if you go to environments with a lot of noise, such as a concert.
