September 9 is when we will finally know what the iPhone 16 line will look like. The flagship of this series is, of course, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, but you might just have to put it aside to wait for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
In fact, according to rumors, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will get a major upgrade that will make the smartphone significantly more powerful.
iPhone 17 Pro Max promises a big leap forward
When it comes to Apple news, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is one of the most reliable sources. He is often the first to know the latest news and is rarely wrong. His latest reveal concerns the iPhone 17 Pro Max, for which he has already highlighted some unique features, while the iPhone 16 line has yet to appear.
The main upgrade for the iPhone 17 Pro Max would be 12 GB of DRAM. The other iPhones expected that year, such as the regular iPhone 17, 17 Pro, the SE 4 and the ultra thin iPhone (also rumored to be on the way), would get only 8 GB.

This extra DRAM is especially important for the 17 Pro Max because it temporarily stores data so that it can be accessed quickly, especially for active apps. With the expected arrival of Apple Intelligence (or, AI), this could make data display faster. Thanks to that extra RAM, the 17 Pro Max may well become Apple’s true AI smartphone.

But that’s not the only interesting addition to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. According to Kuo, this iPhone will also get a Vapor Chamber, a feature we already see on several Android phones such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 and the OnePlus 12.
While the name Vapor Chamber may sound mysterious, it is actually an advanced cooling system. This offers several advantages: because the smartphone is better cooled, more processes can run simultaneously, improving performance. In addition, it also benefits battery condition and battery life.
What can you expect from the iPhone 16 Pro Max?
So while the iPhone 17 Pro Max sounds promising, the iPhone 16 Pro Max also offers plenty of innovations over the 15 Pro Max. For example, the latest model is rumored to get a 6.9-inch screen, which is larger than the current model’s 6.7-inch.
