Although iOS 18.1 is only out, we are already looking forward to iOS 18.2. Your iPhone will get a feature that will make finding your stuff even faster.
iOS 18 has been out on iPhone since last week, but developers now have access to the beta of iOS 18.2. This software version brings more features to the Find My feature.
That means finding your stuff even easier with your iPhone. We’ll tell you exactly how.
Find your stuff easier with your iPhone thanks to iOS 18.2
Although iOS 18.2 – like 18.1 – is mostly about Apple Intelligence and AI, there are of course more new features coming to the smartphone. One of the best innovations has to do with the Find My feature.
In iOS 18.2, it is possible to share an item you have connected to Apple’s Find My network with a third party. It was already possible to share an item’s location with people in your iPhone contact list, but in some cases that’s not enough.
Sometimes you also want to share the location with someone else who is not a contact of yours. For example, consider a situation at the airport. You’re waiting for your suitcase, but it just won’t come off the conveyor belt. If you have an AirTag in your suitcase, it might be helpful to share this location with the. That way you’ll have your luggage back faster, especially if it’s hidden somewhere in the airport.
You can activate this feature by choosing “Share item location” in the Find My app. In iOS 18.2, you will soon have the ability to share a link on the iPhone. The recipient can open it on any device, even if it’s not from Apple. In doing so, that person will also immediately see your email address and phone number where they can reach you.
The person sharing the location can see on their iPhone running iOS 18.2 how many people have visited the link. The link will expire once you have indicated that you have recovered the item associated with the Find My network.
This is the Find My feature on your iPhone
The Find My feature allows you to easily locate your Apple gear and other products that you have connected to an AirTag. Because these gadgets can connect to nearby iPhones, the exact location of an item can be determined.
When you open the Find My app in iOS 18.2, a map shows you where all your Apple products are located. If you’re looking for a specific product, you can click on it. Your iPhone will then indicate with AR how many meters away you are from it. Some products also allow you to play a sound.
