Samsung seems to be saying goodbye to the FE editions of its phones. That means another line is being killed off at the Korean electronics giant.
Last year we already saw the last Samsung Galaxy Note and now the FE line seems to disappear as well. Incidentally, this does have another reason. Samsung is tired of the hassle around the FE models.
Samsung’s Galaxy FE models
In 2020, we first saw an FE model. That was the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. Samsung said it was developing the model mainly for the younger fans of the brand. The FE stands for Fan Edition and is basically a version of the flagship with all the popular features, but just slightly lesser specs. The big advantage is that the phone can therefore be a lot cheaper than the original version.
The idea was of course nice and the first version went well. However, things went completely wrong with the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE. The phone had to be delayed due to a shortage of parts and ended up being released in fewer countries. Moreover, the delayed release meant that the model sat right on the release of the Galaxy S22 which, of course, was not ideal either.

Lots of hassle
That last release caused Samsung to think differently about the phone. It wants to save all the hassle, which is why, according to several SamMobile sources, there will be no new FE handsets from future models. So don’t expect a Galaxy S22 FE. This is remarkable since there were earlier rumors that there would be a Galaxy S22 with a MediaTek chip.
Yesterday, however, some news came out about the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE. It seems that a cheaper version of that phone will be released. However, this one does not seem to support 5G. You can read more about that here.
