Affordable Apple Vision Pro delayed until 2027

The affordable variant of the Apple Vision Pro is currently still in development, and they’re taking their time with that in Cupertino. The launch has been delayed until 2027.

The Apple Vision Pro is an unusual, but mostly pricey product from Apple. Partly because of its price, the smart glasses have not been a great commercial success. Nevertheless, in all likelihood, an Apple Vision Pro with an M5 chip will hit the market next year. This one will have about the same price of $3500.

According to rumors, Apple has been developing an affordable version of its smart glasses for some time. According to noted analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, the cheaper glasses will remain in the development phase for a while and production and launch has been delayed until 2027. It was previously thought to be at the end of 2025.

So Apple is delaying a pair of budget glasses, but choosing to release an updated pair of regular glasses whose predecessor was not a great commercial success. That doesn’t sound entirely logical, but there is a possible philosophy behind it, according to Kuo.

Looking at the HomePod, the regular model was a bigger commercial success than the cheaper HomePod mini. So releasing an affordable version does not guarantee Apple that a product will be more successful. This could be a reason why Apple is not rushing the development, but rather taking it slow.
