Although Android 15 hasn’t been running on some smartphones for very long, Google is busy working on Android 16, which makes your lockscreen look different.
Whereas Android 15 became available fairly late, it’s a different story with 16. In fact, the operating system is coming sooner. You’ll probably be able to take advantage of the update as early as mid-2025.
As we get closer and closer to that launch, more and more new features are being revealed. One of the most notable will be found on your lockscreen, or lock screen.
Android 16 helps you with lots of notifications
You probably recognize it with your smartphone: sometimes your lockscreen is really a mess because of the many notifications. That could be a lot better according to Google, and so it seems to be adjusting that in Android 16.
Google is working on a compact notification system for Android 16, a feature recently found in the 15 QPR2 Beta 3. In it, Google is testing new features that may come to later versions.

Currently, Android 15 offers some options for notifications on your screen, though they are limited. You can only choose to see all notifications, hide them all, or only show sensitive content when the phone is unlocked.
More customizations
In Android 16, you should be able to customize all this more yourself, the way you want it. You can choose from the usual encryption screen, or opt for a new compact mode. In addition, you can also choose to turn off all notifications, medlt Android Authority.
The compact notification system in Android 16 will collapse all notifications into a small box below the clock. You will then see only icons of the apps. If you press on them, they will expand to show the full list. Notifications you’ve already seen can be automatically deleted.
With the new feature, Android 16 makes sure your lock screen stays a lot clearer. This allows you to continue to see your background clearly. You will still have to be patient until the release of the new software.
