Android Auto is an enhancement for your car, but it’s not in every car. How exactly does it work and which models are suitable?
Only when you use Android Auto do you see how indispensable the feature is. It allows you to seamlessly connect your phone to the infotainment system. This allows you to simply play your own playlist, easily answer calls and make navigating a breeze.
To get right to the point: a lot of cars are compatible with Android Auto. All you have to do is connect your phone using a USB cable. In newer models, it is even possible to establish this connection wirelessly.

This feature was first rolled out in more expensive cars, but today you’ll also find the features simply in recent Honda’s, Hyundai’s and other brands.
Exactly which cars Android Auto is available in is handy to look up. Google has created a list that shows by brand which models support the special in-car software. By the way, you can also find there which in-car stereos support it. So you can enjoy good music on the road.
If you go through the list, you’ll see mostly that models coming after 2016 support Android Auto. This is the case with the Volkswagen Golf, for example, as well as the Skoda Fabia. Still, there are exceptions, as Toyota does not have very many models that support the system. You can forget about a Tesla, for example. They are fully committed to their own infotainment system.
Connecting wirelessly
Still want to connect wirelessly? Then you can with some cars that have Wi-Fi on board. To do so, however, you must first set it up properly in your car. Once that is done, the phone will automatically connect to Android Auto. Bluetooth alone is not enough, as not enough data can be transferred through that connection.
Does your car support Android Auto but not wireless connectivity? Then fortunately there is a solution. For example, you can use the Motorola MA1, and it does so with Google’s own technology.
Once you are connected, you will see on the screen apps from your phone that are suitable for in the car. So you can get started right away if your car is Android Auto capable.
