Apple has made two minor changes to its AirTag. In doing so, the companies are complying with a new law.
Although there are quite a few rumors about a new AirTag, this news is about the current model. This is getting two minor changes, one of which is necessitated by a new law.
Thus, the AirTag will have a special warning intended for children. There will also be a notice about the battery in the AirTag.
Apple makes changes to AirTag
The AirTag was scrutinized by the U.S. government for its ability to track people unwanted. Apple has already taken several measures for this. For example, the tracker makes noise if it senses that it is with someone who is not the owner of the tracker for an extended period of time.
The investigation found that this was not a problem, but revealed something else. For example, the warning label requirements would not comply with the law. Indeed, products containing button cell batteries must contain a warning to “protect children from life-threatening ingestion.”

To comply, Apple has now placed a label on the box of the AirTag to prevent swallowing the battery. It is also adding an icon on the inside of the AirTag’s lid. As if that were not enough, Apple is also adding a warning to the interface of the Find My app.
When is the AirTag 2 coming?
It seems logical that these changes will also be made to the AirTag 2. When exactly it will come out is unfortunately still unknown, although rumors are circulating about the middle of 2025.
The main innovation from this model is that it will likely have an Ultra Wideband chip. This is already in the newer iPhones and the Apple Watch Ultra 2. The big advantage is that this will give it an even longer range, making it even easier to find. So you may prefer to wait a while before purchasing the tracker.
