Tonight is once again the iPhone 16 launch. A short tradition may be coming to an end, and it has everything to do with the Apple Watch Ultra 3.
Tonight is the highlight of the year for Apple fans: the launch of the new iPhone 16 models. Of course, the new Apple Watch will also be featured, but there seems to be something strange this year.
It seems there will be no new Ultra launch this year. Why is Apple already breaking this still young tradition?
No Apple Watch Ultra 3 during iPhone 16 event
At Apple’s September event (aka It’s Glowtime), you know two things for sure: new iPhones and Apple Watches will be unveiled. For the iPhone 16, everything seems familiar: an iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. With the Apple Watch, however, things are different. There will be a Series 10, but we can forget about the Ultra 3.
This news comes from reliable Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, confirming earlier reports by equally reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo previously revealed that the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is unlikely to be shown during the iPhone 16 launch.

I don’t expect Apple to announce an Apple Watch Ultra 3 tomorrow. Instead, I expect the Ultra 2 sticks around and – finally – gains a black color option. I also wouldn’t rule out a delay to the new Watch SE.

Kuo also gave the reason why Apple is not introducing the Apple Watch Ultra 3 during the iPhone 16 event. According to him, Apple needs more time to develop new, innovative health features. The company cannot offer enough innovations at the moment, which is why it decided to delay the model for a year.
Nevertheless, Apple still appears to be presenting an Apple Watch Ultra during the iPhone 16 event, but it will only be a new color option. According to Gurman, a black titanium version will also be coming soon. There were already rumors about this last year, but then this color was not released.
iPad mini
In addition to the news about the Apple Watch Ultra, Gurman also brought information about a new iPad mini. The last version of Apple’s smallest tablet dates back to 2021. According to the journalist, the new iPad mini should be launched in October. It could get the A17 Pro chip and an 8.7-inch OLED screen, among other things.
With the Apple Watch Ultra 3 on hold, it could just be that this gap during the iPhone 16 event will be filled by the iPad mini 7. It’s also possible that new AirPods will be coming. You can read more about that below.
