Apple has big plans for the iPad and MacBook. Substantial changes are planned in the future.
According to rumors, we can expect the iPad Pro with an OLED screen next month. Still, really big plans seem to be implemented starting in 2026.
Starting that year, almost all iPad and MacBook models must have an OLED screen. And as it so often goes with Apple: new screens often mean a new design as well.
A new design for the MacBook and iPad
And actually, Apple seems to be due for a new design for the MacBook and iPad. Apple has been giving the two devices the same look for years, despite some minor tweaks. Consider, for example, the addition and removal of the Touch Bar.
Still, OLED screens seem likely to make Apple want to revamp its laptops and tablets. The company does change more often with the arrival of truly new screens. The usually reliable Omdia has now published the roadmap for the iPad and MacBook, and it gives us a glimpse into the future.

As the first new product after the iPad Pro, the iPad Air will likely get an OLED screen. We’ll have to wait a while for this, because if rumors are to be believed, it won’t come until early 2026.
At the end of 2026, it would be the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro’s turn. The current models still have a Mini LED display, but by 2026 this will have to become OLED. This is an interesting fact, as previous rumors still assumed 2027.
2027 the year of Apple’s foldable screens?
The MacBook Air is due in 2027, according to the roadmap. Both the 13-inch and 15-inch models should then get hybrid OLED screens.
In the same year, it will also be the iPad Mini’s turn. And perhaps even more interesting: in 2027, according to Omdia, Apple will come out with a 20-inch iPad that has a foldable OLED screen.

There are several rumors that other products will also get foldable screens that year. For example, a foldable iPad mini and even a foldable iPhone would be released that year to celebrate the iPhone’s 20th anniversary.
