Apple Maps has a similar feature to Streetview in Google Maps with Look Around. It is now bringing that feature to the web version.
Although Google Maps had a big lead over Apple Maps for years, that gap has narrowed considerably these days. In fact, in some areas, Apple is even ahead.
However, Street View is still a better feature in Google Maps compared to Look Around. Although both features do the same thing, Google has just a bit more options. Yet that is now changing.
Apple Maps moves forward with this Google Maps feature
You can now use Look Around with Apple Maps on the web version of the mapping application. So that means you can virtually walk down that one street in Rome or New York on your computer, just as you already can with Google Maps.
To adventure through your computer, you need to go to beta.maps.apple.com. When you open the website, you will already see maps appearing. To use Look Around, press the binoculars that appear in the lower left corner of the screen. Then zoom in on the map until you see a picture of the place in question appear at the bottom left. You can click the arrows in the upper right corner of that photo to enlarge it.

If you do, you will see that the pictures are quite sharp and in quality sometimes even better than Google Maps. Although large parts of the Netherlands are covered, unfortunately this is not true for every street in Apple Maps. Google, in turn, is better at that.
More plans
So Apple has plans, like Google Maps, to greatly expand the feature to include narrower villages and less walkable areas. It also wants to bring the feature to more countries, such as Egypt, China and Mexico.
The web version of Apple Maps is not very old. As you can see from the web address, it is still a beta version. It was only launched for the first time last July. In addition, not every web browser is supported yet, but you can use it on Google Chrome and Safari anyway. Google Maps then has been present on the Web for quite a few years.
