Faster Internet and a better Smart Home in one. That’s what AVM wants to achieve with its Fritz!Box with its latest routers.
When you take out an Internet subscription with providers such as Ziggo or KPN, you often get a modem or router as standard. These devices provide your Internet and television signal, but these days you have more freedom of choice.
In fact, since 2022 in the Netherlands, you can decide which router you want to use in your home. This gives you more control over your home network. Brands such as Netgear and AVM offer high-quality alternatives. We spoke with AVM during IFA to find out what their latest products have to offer: the combination of fast Internet and a Smart Home.
AVM focuses on faster internet and Smart Home
AVM emphasizes that your (modem) router is not only the starting point for your Internet, but also for your Smart Home. The latest FRITZ!Box models support both Zigbee and Matter, allowing you to easily connect all kinds of smart devices. Your router can then communicate with your smartphone, allowing you to easily manage your home. Think, for example, of lights that automatically turn on when you come home, using timetables and routines.
To make this experience even better, AVM is launching FRITZ!Box modem routers with support for WiFi 7, the latest standard in wireless Internet. WiFi 7 offers faster speeds, shorter latency times and better performance in busy networks. This is ideal for households with many connected devices, as well as for gamers who want less lag during online games.

New products from AVM
Depending on your Internet connection, you need different devices. Fiber optic, ADSL, and cable Internet each require their own type of modem router. It is therefore important to check which connection you have before choosing a modem router.
For fiber users, AVM is introducing the FRITZ!Box 5690, which is suitable for GPON/AON connections. For users with an XGS-PON connection, there is the FRITZ!Box 5690 XGS. In addition, AVM is launching the FRITZ!Box 4690, a powerful router that can support speeds of up to 10 Gbit/s Internet. You hang this router behind your modem, while you place the other modem routers directly on your provider’s connection.
Easier installation
AVM makes installation of their modem routers easier by clearly indicating which cables need to be connected where. Once the router is connected, all you have to do is indicate which country you live in and which provider you have internet with, and the router will automatically choose the right settings. In the future, it should even be possible to connect the router directly to your smartphone so that all settings are automatically transferred.
In addition to modem routers, AVM also introduced some new FRITZ! products at IFA, such as the FRITZ!Repeater 1200 W7. This WiFi repeater, which you simply plug into a power outlet, increases your WiFi range and supports speeds of up to 3.5 Gbit/s. For larger networks, AVM offers the Repeater 2400 W7, which can achieve speeds of up to 6.4 Gbit/s.
