If you’re waiting for the new version of CarPlay, you’ll have to be a little extra patient. Apple is providing a little more clarity.
We’ve been talking about a new version of Apple CarPlay for quite some time now. Makes sense, too, since Apple itself already gave a preview of what it may look like.
Still, users’ patience is being sorely tested. Apple now announces that a new version of CarPlay is on hold for the time being.
When is the new Apple CarPlay coming?
Apple first announced the updated version of CarPlay in 2022. To date, however, this version has still not been released. However, we could already see some previews, for example through Porsche and Aston Martin, which previously showed images of the integration in their cars.
Recently, Apple updated CarPlay’s official webpage. On it, the company reports that the updated version is not expected in 2024. While this is not surprising, it has now been officially confirmed. When the new version does become available remains unclear for now.

References to CarPlay in iOS 18.3 Beta
Some clues have now surfaced about the possible arrival of the new CarPlay. References to the updated version have been found in the iOS 18.3 Beta, which was released last month. In addition, Apple has added new images to a European database.
However, Apple also depends on the car brands it works with. They have to integrate the new CarPlay system into their cars. Only when they are ready will we likely hear more about its availability.
Not all car brands embrace the new Apple CarPlay
It is important to note that not all car brands will support the updated version of CarPlay. For example, Ford and Mercedes took a long time to confirm their support. General Motors has even decided not to support the new version at all. This allows them to maintain more control over the software offered in their cars.
Whether consumers are eager for alternatives, such as General Motors’ own software, remains to be seen, however.
