Duolingo is going to change significantly on iPhone and Android. In addition, the app will come with a special gadget for users learning to play music through the app.
Want to learn a new language? Then Duolingo is probably one of your first choices. The app makes it easy and fun with exercises for languages such as Spanish, French or Japanese.
But according to the app’s creators, it can be even better. That’s why Duolingo will soon introduce new features, with AI also playing an important role. In addition, you will soon be able to go on adventures in the app.
Duolingo gets a metamorphosis for iPhone and Android
Duolingo is adding two new features to the app: Adventures and AI video calls. In Adventures, you follow stories that take place in special places, such as a restaurant or park. Here, real-life situations are simulated, allowing you to have a conversation or ask questions, for example. It is a refreshing change from the usual exercises.
For now, one adventure per chapter is available. These adventures are initially only available to English speakers learning French and Spanish speakers practicing English. In the future, this feature will become available for other languages as well.

AI video calls
Duolingo takes AI video calls one step further. This feature is designed to provide natural dialogue in a personalized and interactive environment.
In the video calls, you talk to Lily in real time, putting your learned skills into practice immediately. The goal of the app is to give users more confidence to have conversations in the real world, without too much pressure.
Currently, AI video calls are available for people learning English, Spanish or French. Languages such as Portuguese, Italian and German will follow later. However, there is a condition: you must have a subscription to Duolingo Max. This subscription is not yet available in the Netherlands. Thanks to a collaboration with ChatGPT, the AI will also give you detailed feedback on your mistakes and allow you to practice role plays via text.
Duolingo Max, however, is pricey. It costs 30 euros a month or $168 a year and is currently only available on iPhone.

Duolingo expands into music with new gadget
Duolingo is not just focused on language learning. You can also learn to play music through the app. To make this even easier, Duolingo has teamed up with instrument maker Loog to develop a special piano with three octaves. This piano is designed to fit perfectly with Duolingo’s music course.
The piano costs $249 and can be pre-ordered now. Delivery is scheduled for November.
