Gaming on the Apple Vision Pro gets a lot more fun

Although Apple’s Vision Pro is not for sale in the Netherlands, that could change at some point. In any case, this new collaboration is going to make gaming on the device a lot more fun.

The Vision Pro is a mixed reality headset from Apple that combines virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). The physical world and the virtual world are merged the moment you wear the device. You can watch 360-degree videos with it and run numerous apps on it. Cheap the device is not: for the most affordable model you have to pay over 3,000 euros.

You can also play games on the Vision Pro. Through Apple Arcade, you can play more than a hundred games on it, optimized specifically for the headset. Special versions of well-known games, such as Fruit Ninja, have also been developed for the headset. That gaming will be a lot more enjoyable in the future, as Apple will be working with Sony, the maker of the PlayStation. The Vision Pro will have support for the Sony VR2 Sense Controller.

Better gaming on the Vision Pro

Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman writes that in his weekly newsletter. Apple and Sony have been working together for some time to make VR controllers for the PlayStation work well with the Vision Pro. When the two companies plan to present the collaboration is not clear.

It is already possible to connect normal PlayStation controllers to Apple’s mixed-reality headset. You can also already connect Xbox controllers to it. But those controllers are not optimized for virtual reality experiences. Sony’s VR controllers are.

Not just fine for gaming

In addition to an improved gaming experience, the Sony controllers could also make productivity tasks and media editing more enjoyable on the Vision Pro. Apple and Sony plan to sell the controllers through physical Apple Stores and Apple’s Web shop, according to Gurman’s information.

Rumors have been circulating for some time about a cheaper version of the current Vision Pro, which should appeal to a wider audience. That one appears to have been delayed until 2027.
