Criminals are increasingly making their way into the digital world. Fortunately, Gmail is cracking down on them thanks to a new feature on iPhone and Android.
It used to be easy to spot scammers in Gmail on your iPhone or Android. Of course, you knew you weren’t related to a Nigerian Prince and therefore had no chance of winning a multi-million-dollar inheritance.
Today, Internet scams are much more sophisticated. Criminals pretend to be your bank or another company and have recreated the websites of the relevant agencies to perfection. Nor do they write texts full of errors, as they often did in the past.
Google helps you spot scammers in Gmail app for iPhone and Android
So it has become more difficult to spot scammers, but fortunately Google is actually making it much easier in Gmail. Last year, Google started showing blue checkmarks on emails from different companies in the browser version of Gmail. Now it’s also the turn of the app for Android and iPhone.
Google uses its own Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) for this purpose. Businesses can request this so they get a blue checkmark. This lets customers know they can trust the emails and that they are not spam. Pressing the blue checkmark will show more information.

Another way to recognize businesses in Gmail
In addition to a blue checkmark, Google is coming up with another way to more clearly identify businesses. Companies can also apply for a Common Mark Certificate (CMC). reports the company. This allows them to display their logo as the sender, making them easier to identify. Unfortunately, this does not automatically mean that they will also get a blue checkmark, as that is a bit harder to obtain.
With these new innovations, Google is at least helping people more easily recognize emails from companies and agencies in Gmail. Thus, scammers have a much harder time.
