GoPro has not added a new sensor or 8K video resolution in the latest Hero 13 Black, something many fans were hoping for. They also seem to be lagging behind competitors such as DJI and Insta360. In fact, little seems to have changed from the Hero 12 Black.
Still, GoPro has done something special with this new camera. Instead of just focusing on more pixels or better low-light performance, they have now added interchangeable lenses. With these new “HB series” lenses, they are showing what the future of action cameras could look like.

The lenses come in different types, so you have the Macro, Ultra Wide and Anamorphic, plus a set of four ND filters. Extra handy: the camera itself can automatically detect which Lens Mod you are using and automatically adjust the settings accordingly.

The Macro Lens Mod is truly a gamechanger. It lets you focus the Hero 13 Black up to 11 cm from your subject, which is four times closer than with the standard lens. The Anamorphic Lens Mod adds a cinematic flair to your GoPro videos. You get beautiful horizontal lens spots, less distortion and sharp corners.
Finally, the Ultra Wide Lens, the name says it all, lets you shoot ultra wide images. The lens lets you shoot images 177° wide. That’s 36% wider and 48% higher than with the standard lens. Plenty of reasons to try that out in person.
