After a recent update, several Quest VR headsets from Meta stopped working due to a bug. The tech company is now working on a fix.
Meta has launched several Quest VR headsets, including the Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest 3S. After a recent update, those headsets stopped working after a reset to factory settings. The headsets stopped responding or entered a so-called bootloop. Your device then keeps rebooting itself constantly.
The bug was not good news for people with such a headset, as they could no longer do anything with the device. Meanwhile, the problems seem to have been resolved for most people, the company writes in a blog post. Meta is working on a fix that should make all Quest VR headsets work again.
Some Meta Quest users will be relieved
Some users of VR headsets from Meta will breathe a sigh of relief. Indeed, it seemed that they would forever be stuck with a device that no longer works. Indeed, The Verge writes that some users have been told by Meta that they have fallen behind due to warranty expiration.
The problems surfaced back in early December, the tech site notes, based on a post on X that Meta shared then about problems some Quest 3S users were having. At the time, nothing was said about problems with the Quest 2 and Quest 3 headsets. Therefore, it is unclear whether all those headsets were also experiencing problems back then.

Software updates often bring only minor problems
The news shows that software updates do not always go well, and can sometimes cause serious problems. Fortunately, we don’t see this kind of situation often, and bugs are generally just minor problems that don’t cause much inconvenience.
Meta competes in VR headsets with the likes of Apple, which launched its own mixed reality glasses with the Vision Pro. Unfortunately, that device is not yet on sale in the Netherlands, but who knows, maybe a successor will come to our country. Hopefully that will also come with a friendlier price tag, as the current Vision Pro costs over 3,000 euros converted.
