Not Meta, but Apple puts an end to Instagram without advertising

Apple TV catches up with Breaking Bad and Better Call

Some things are too good to be true. A variant of Instagram appeared in the App Store in which ads and unwanted content were not welcome. Wonderful, but unfortunately that app has since disappeared from the App Store. Remarkable: not Meta, but Apple made the decision.

The app in question, aptly named OG App, already had more than ten thousand downloads to its name. With this, the Instagram alternative quickly rose to the fifty most popular iOS titles in the App Store. The success was short-lived, however, as Apple recently swung the application from its download store.

‘Apple follows in Meta’s footsteps with Instagram’

That’s a raw deal for the developer. On Twitter, one of the people behind the app reveals his thoughts on the matter. “Apple wants you to think the company values privacy,” reads one of the tweets in this thread on the platform. “But it doesn’t,” the message reads.

Twitter won’t load because you didn’t give permission.

Dear Apple: You’re helping Facebook bully your users.

A thread:

“Apple prefers to go along with Facebook’s whims without a backbone and thus does not have your best interests at heart.” Those statements do contain considerable assumptions. Because at the time of writing, we don’t know if Meta (Instagram’s parent company) petitioned Apple for the removal.

Meets all App Store guidelines

It is further notable, however, that Meta has banned OG App accounts on Facebook and Instagram. The creator of OG App also let it be known that the application meets all App Store guidelines, so there is no reason for the removal. You can still download the app on Android through the Google Play Store.

So, as mentioned, the OG App is an ad-free version of Instagram. Users are not bothered by ads and content suggestions and thus can browse nicely without hassle. It could be that the creators are violating Instagram’s guidelines, but for now, there doesn’t seem to be any.
