Using the special Philips Hue Sync TV app, you can connect those bulbs to the content on your television. That way they provide light that matches the movie or series exactly.

The Philips Hue Sync TV app is not entirely new. Previously, this feature came to Samsung smart TVs and now it’s LG’s turn. This app brings the colors from your television to the lights in your living room by synchronizing the images. This applies not only to movies and series, but also to games and sporting events, for example.
It not only provides a calmer image for your eyes, but also helps you to really get into the mood of the content. It supports the best-known smart TV features such as 4K, 8K, HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

At the moment, there is still a big but. Not every LG smart TV supports the feature at this time. The Philips Hue Sync TV app is rolling out first on LG televisions 2024 and later that run on webOS24 or newer. Whether the feature will soon come to older televisions is still unknown.
To use the app on your LG smart TV, you need a Bridge in addition to Philips Hue bulbs (such as the Play Gradient Strip and Play Light Bars). This makes the connection between the Sync TV app and your bulbs.

Unfortunately, the Philips Hue Sync TV app is not completely free. You can choose to buy it all at once. To do so, you pay the one-time fee of 129.99 euros in the LG store on your smart TV. However, you can also opt for a monthly subscription. This will cost you 2.99 euros per month. So technically, it takes 44 months before you benefit from the one-time purchase. Good, then, if you want to use the feature for years.
Still, there is another way to use the feature. You can choose to buy the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box. This one supports more televisions, since you just connect it through HDMI. Cheap it is not, as you will pay 350 euros for this one.
