Sonos improves problematic iPhone and Android app (but…)

Sonos has released an update to its revamped iPhone and Android app. While there are many improvements, not everything works optimally yet.

Although the launch of the Sonos Ace headphones was a huge success, the new Sonos app for iPhone and Android is not getting as rave reviews. Users complain about performance and lack of beloved features, leading to disappointment and frustration.

Sonos has since released several updates to improve the app. In May and June, timers were added. Now comes another update. However, users are still missing certain features, despite Sonos’ efforts to improve the app.

Sonos app for iPhone and Android further improved

In the latest update, Android users now have a dedicated mute button, an improved TalkBack screen reader for the volume controls, and those volume controls have now been given numeric values so you can adjust the sound even better. The latter feature is also coming to the iphone version of the app.

Furthermore, the volume icon gets an update, it is possible to adjust the stereo and mono configuration for the Sonos Amp and Port outputs, and there is support for SonosNet channel selection. Useful if you’re in an environment where many WiFi networks can cause interference.

More improvements

So is everyone satisfied now? No, on Reddit and elsewhere we read the necessary comments. Sonos can still improve the search function in the library, making it easier to find songs. Also, the queue in the iPhone and Android app still needs to be addressed to make it easier to add songs. There are also complaints about adding various other services such as Apple Music, Trueplay is not yet working optimally and it is still sometimes difficult to add additional speakers.

Sonos let it be known that quite a few features are still in the works. These should come out in the coming months. For example, an improvement for autoplay settings will be rolled out in July, and at a later date it should also be possible to snooze alarms.

Listen to Freakin’ Nerds

WANT editor-in-chief Mark Hofman celebrates in Apple Park not only the 4 million followers of Niels van Straaten (Appledsign), but also the arrival of Apple Intelligence. Is that something to be excited about, how does it work and is it actually safe?

So a completely trouble-free app is still some time away. With this update, however, Sonos shows that it takes user feedback seriously. So update!
