Strava secretly adds new features

If you use Strava, you may have some new features you didn’t know about. We take you through them.

Usually apps announce new features with much fanfare, but Strava does things differently. They have secretly added a number of new features. These mainly have to do with the leaderboard and AI.

For example, you will soon be able to make even better use of an AI-powered coach, and Flyover is getting a makeover.

New AI features for Strava

Let’s start with the AI features. Last year, Strava introduced Athlete Intelligence. This is a special AI-powered health coach. This should give you insight into how you are progressing. This is done in a more direct way than the previous feature, which only gave you points.

Strava now includes data from virtual runs and rides. It also analyzes segments and gives you power insights. This is based on feedback from runners and cyclists, which showed that the information is more accurate. The feature was first in beta, but is now out of there.

Changes in rankings

As mentioned, the leaderboards in Strava are also being updated. You may have come across unrealistic results in the app. Pieces put down by a car instead of a bike, for example. This is now being addressed.

Strava uses AI to analyze activity. So it can also detect unrealistic speeds and identify GPS errors. These are then removed. It targets electric bikes in particular. That, of course, is unfair competition for people who use only muscle power.

Results can now also be compared even more easily with previous workouts, so you can track your progress. A special comparison mode has been created for this purpose. That way you’ll immediately know what you can do better.

After training, it can be fun to share results. That becomes even easier, as you can now share your Flyover. You upload these directly to your Instagram Stories, for example.

You can now find these new features in the Strava app. However, you must be a paying member for these features.
