The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are officially a reality. During yesterday’s Unpacked event, the South Korean company announced its new smartwatches. Interestingly, a much-discussed Apple Watch feature is already on the models.
It’s not here yet, but it’s been talked about in the corridors for ages. In the future, the Apple Watch should be able to measure the body temperature of its wearer. Something that Samsung’s new model can already do.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 measures body temperature
A month before Apple announces its new iPhone models, attention usually turns to its competitors. Samsung Galaxy Unpacked is an annual event where the company’s new hardware, including smartphones and smartwatches, is announced. This year that gave us not only the new foldable Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, but also the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro.
The latter two are looking to compete directly with the Apple Watch Series 8, which will see the light of day later this year. Samsung’s smartwatches have a larger battery, better sensors and the ability to measure users’ body temperature. As far as the latter is concerned, the South Korean company is managing to stay ahead of Apple.

Indeed, the story has been going around for ages that the Apple Watch would get such a feature. While there was already an expectation that the feature would appear with the Series 7, it seems very likely that the Series 8 will not carry the feature either. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are ahead of Cupertino in this regard.
An updated Apple Watch
This is not to say, by the way, that the battle is already lost immediately. Especially if the expectations of Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman come true. According to him, Apple will release a special Pro version of the Watch this year. This would not only feature a new design, but also a number of nice features.
