Apple CarPlay is getting a major upgrade with an updated version. Here are the features we’re most looking forward to.
Apple continues to keep busy improving CarPlay. Although it has been a while since the next-generation CarPlay was announced at WWDC 2022, it is clear that there is plenty of tinkering going on behind the scenes. So new features are on the way.
Although we’re still waiting for the first cars with support for the new CarPlay system, more and more details are coming out. We have already dived into the new system and list what we know so far about this updated version of Apple CarPlay.
The new Apple CarPlay features we can’t wait for
The new version of Apple CarPlay still feels familiar, but it brings plenty of cool improvements. Here’s what we’re most looking forward to.
Better integration with your car
The new version of Apple CarPlay will be much more than just an extra screen for your iPhone. In fact, the system will be deeply integrated with your car. That means you’ll soon be able to control everything from your fuel gauge to your seat heater from one easy-to-use interface.
Multiple screens, CarPlay everywhere
The upcoming Apple CarPlay release supports multiple screens. So whether you’re looking at your dashboard, infotainment system or additional displays, CarPlay ensures everything is perfectly aligned. Each vehicle will have a customized interface so that it perfectly matches the design of the car.

New apps
Apple is adding a series of new apps to CarPlay to make your driving experience even more complete. An app for tire pressure, an overview of your driving performance, and a handy climate app that lets you instantly adjust your air conditioning or heating are planned. Even an FM radio app will have a place in the system.
Widgets galore
Widgets are becoming an important part of CarPlay. Think quickly accessible info like your travel time, fuel consumption, or even the status of your smart garage door. You can scroll through these widgets on the instrument panel, convenient and uncluttered.

When can we expect Apple CarPlay 2.0?
Apple reports on their website that the first cars with support for the new CarPlay will appear as late as 2024. That does sound very ambitious, as no specific date has been announced yet and they only have a month and a half left.
Brands like Porsche, Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz have already given a glimpse of what their future models could look like with CarPlay 2.0. But an exact release date remains out for now.
