New emoji keep popping up on Android and iPhone. At exactly 164, we list the most important ones for you.
What would we do without emoji? It is the ideal way to simply express how you feel on your iPhone or Android device, without having to type long texts. Plus, it lets you show whether something is meant seriously or just sarcastically.
There are already an awful lot of emoji, but more are coming. We tell you what to expect in the near future.
New emoji for iPhone and Android
A number of new proposals have been submitted as emoji. My personal favorite is the yeti, or terrible snowman. He looks like someone with a terrible morning mood, perfect to describe your feelings!
But there’s more. Soon you’ll also be able to add an orca, bell house, treasure chest and falling rocks from a mountain to your post. Musicians will have a trombone to show what they do. In addition, a blown-up face and some kind of bang/cloud have been added.

As for people, you will soon be able to use a ballerina and two wrestling characters. Moreover, the two dancing individuals with bunny ears, which are yellow by default, will also get options in other skin colors.
In all, there are 164 new emoji. That sounds like a lot, but actually it’s not so bad. Most are variations in skin color. Especially with emoji that feature two people, there are quite a few possible combinations.
This is how new emoji are chosen
New emoji are not created overnight. They are determined by the Unicode Consortium, a group of several large companies and agencies in the tech world. These include Apple, Google and Meta. This ensures that emoji are the same on every platform.
There will be considerable consultation over time, and the appearance of some emoji may be tweaked here and there. If all goes according to plan, the new emoji will be available in September 2025. So you’ll have to wait a while longer to use the yeti in your posts!
Although the question is whether you really need them. At Apple, it is already possible to use AI to create your own emoji. You can read more about that below.
