Just this week, a number of Apple products received a “fresh edition. But more and more older products are being added that haven’t had a refresh for two years. This list of products seems to be forgotten by Apple. Or will the company soon pop with a large number of updated hardware?
A good number of Apple products come out with new versions almost every year. But some are still exactly the same as when you bought them two years ago.
Not an update from Apple but certainly not old
Now, of course, you don’t have to immediately consign these products to the trash. Many of them still function completely properly. And not everyone has the luxury of bringing in the latest of the newest. So waiting for an update is still fine.
These products below haven’t received attention and a new version in two years.

Apple Pencil
The second-generation Apple Pencil came out at the time of the iPad Pro in 2018. That makes the magic wand about 4.5 years old now.
A key feature of the second-generation Apple Pencil is that it magnetically attaches to select iPads for wireless charging. You can also switch between drawing tools and brushes within apps such as Notes by tapping twice on the Apple Pencil’s built-in touch sensor.
There are totally no rumors when a new version of the Pencil might be coming.
Apple Mac Pro
This machine is now three years old and is the company’s last Intel-based desktop. Still this year, the high-end desktops are expected to be updated with Apple’s M2 Ultra chip, making it the fastest Mac ever, and effectively an entirely new machine.

Pro Display XDR
If you see the Pro Display XDR in person, you might understand why a new version hasn’t been released yet. It was released in December 2019 along with the Mac Pro, making it more than three years old. But trust us, you won’t see that from it.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in December that Apple is working on several new external monitors, including an updated version of the Pro Display XDR that will be equipped with an Apple Silicon chip, just as the cheaper Studio Display has an A13 chip. When that one will see the light of day is not known.
AirPods Pro Max
You would almost forget but it has been two years since Apple’s AirPods Pro came out. Apple’s over-ear headphones have received no hardware updates since then and remain firmly priced ($629).
That Apple is working on a new version is no surprise, of course, but it won’t be until 2025 until that headset sees the light of day, according to experts.

HomePod mini update
Apple recently released another new version of the HomePod, but we still have to wait for a new version of the mini. The handy speaker came out in 2020.
It is defensible that the HomePod mini will not need a new version at least between now and a year from now. With small updates and new features, Apple still manages to make the most of them.
