WhatsApp busy with Twitter- and Facebook-like functionality

1641393255 How WhatsApp wants to use your profile picture to send

A new beta version of WhatsApp is now available that takes over a feature we know from both Twitter and Facebook. Specifically, it involves the desktop version of the popular chat service. It is also the case that the brand new functionality is intended for those with business accounts.

If you use WhatsApp Business, and maintain customer contact that way, you will soon have an additional option at your disposal. You can then set a header image for your profile on the platform. This image, which appears behind your profile picture, can already be found on Twitter and Facebook.

WhatsApp adds header images

Within the beta, it has been possible to add such a header for a while, for example through the iOS version. But the most recent beta for desktop contains a little more information about the upcoming functionality. Remember that we are currently dealing with a beta and things can still change before release.

Adding such a header image naturally reinforces the brand you convey online. People not only see your profile picture, but can then recognize you by the header behind that picture. Since this is a Business feature, we don’t have to count on ‘normal’ users being able to do this as well.

Not really useable yet

Unfortunately, the desktop version does not allow users to set a header image. This is only possible within the iOS version. But we now know what that image looks like, thanks to the screenshot above. Then you know as a business owner what you can roughly expect.

So for now, it’s just a matter of waiting to see when adding such an image will be available to business owners. The functionality has been tested by WhatsApp for two months now, so maybe it won’t take long. The service itself has not yet announced anything about this option, unfortunately.
