WhatsApp may soon appear to be getting a small makeover. This has everything to do with the addition of more AI.
WhatsApp, except for a few minor changes, has looked the same on your smartphone for years. Yet that, on both Android and iOS, is probably going to change, and it has everything to do with AI.
Parent company Meta is doing more and more to bring AI to all its services. And while we can’t yet use it in the Netherlands, it seems only a matter of time. Several changes the company is already initiating.
A different look for WhatsApp due to AI
AI is becoming an increasingly important part of WhatsApp. At least, if you live outside the European Union. Here, parent company Meta is still holding its cards to its chest, due to regulatory fears. Still, AI in the messaging service is likely to come to the Netherlands soon, as Apple has taken the same step with its AI.
To bring AI even more into the spotlight, Meta is opting for a revamped front end for WhatsApp. The new version, already seen in the beta version for Android, gives AI its own tab, making it easier to play with the AI tools. As a result, the dedicated Community tab is gone. You can now find that again in chats.

So you’re immediately given several options when you click on them. You can choose popular AI characters, generated stickers, images and use Meta’s own search engine. Tools that are all already there, but now even easier to use.
Chatbots are the future
Chatbots are especially popular on WhatsApp. Meta has listed all kinds of different ones. Moreover, it will soon be possible to create one yourself. For this, all you have to do is add a short description. In it you can indicate his expertise and personality, so that he answers exactly as you want.
Like that feature, creating your own AI chatbots is still in the beta version. That means it’s all still being tested right now, and it may even be that it never comes to WhatsApp at all. Yet that does not seem to be the case in this case, as Meta is fully committed to its AI techniques.
