WhatsApp takes over this feature from Instagram

WhatsApp has taken a good look at Instagram. It is taking over a feature you may already be familiar with from Stories.

You’ve probably noticed that WhatsApp is starting to look more and more like Instagram. The Updates tab in particular almost feels like Instagram Stories.

That feature seems to really appeal to people, as Meta continues to add plenty of new developments. One new feature is even more reminiscent of the social medium.

WhatsApp takes over popular Instagram feature

In the latest beta version for Android (2.24.23.21), WhatsApp gets more content sticker capabilities. It adds the “Add Yours” feature, which has been on Instagram since 2021. This allows users to create a sticker for a status and share it with others.

But that’s not the only sticker feature WhatsApp is adopting from Instagram. The poll sticker has also popped up in the beta, meaning you will soon be able to add a poll in your status. People from your contacts can then respond.

Still, there is a big difference between the versions of Instagram and WhatsApp. The latter app focuses more on privacy, keeping interactions end-to-end encrypted, reports WABetaInfo.

When someone replies to your WhatsApp status, only you can see it. On Instagram, other users can easily track whether a status has been shared by others.

More innovations for WhatsApp

More updates for WhatsApp are being worked on behind the scenes. For example, another notable feature appeared in the beta earlier this week. The app wants to help you check if an image is authentic.

With this, it should soon be possible to search where the image came from. This is done through a reverse search in Google that leads you to the source. You will soon be able to activate this option by clicking on the image itself.

As mentioned, both WhatsApp features are still in the beta phase. That means they are first being tested among a select group of users who have signed up for beta testing. If there are no more bugs and the features work well, they will come to the final version of the app, like this feature below.
