WhatsApp will take peer pressure away from you with new functionality

WhatsApp is a convenient communication tool, but it can also consume a lot of time and energy when you are in many different groups. Just leaving always stands out, too, because the messaging service notifies you of it. This creates social pressure, at least for the people who care.

Of course, you can just choose to leave a group. But sometimes that creates more hassle than you can be worth. “Why did you leave the group?” and “Do we have to forward everything to you separately now?” are questions you don’t want. And all because of that one system notification of your departure. Fortunately, that’s about to change.

WhatsApp is working on a solution

What if WhatsApp doesn’t notify you that you’re leaving? That saves a lot of questions and a lot of hassle. And you don’t have to conform to everyone else because of it. Ideal, in other words. Does this sound like a good idea? Then we have good news, as the popular messaging service is now working on this.

This is according to information held by WABetaInfo. The editors have in their hands a version of the chat app that shows that the feature is going to be on the upswing. When you decide to leave a group, only admins will be notified. Not every member of the group anymore, that is.

New notification within the app

You get that message the moment you want to leave a group, in the form of a new notification. You can still decide not to leave the group at that point. But above all press that big green button on the right. Then you are rid of a lot of chatter and notifications, probably.

Interestingly, the option is currently only found in the desktop version of WhatsApp. However, there is a very good chance that the feature will also come to Android and iOS. The big question now is when this will happen. This could happen in a few weeks, but also in a few months.
