Apple is in the process of developing a new Apple Watch SE. This one may not be made of aluminum, but plastic.
When you think of an Apple Watch, you think of a solid product made of sturdy materials. Plastic does not easily come to mind, but it is possible that the future smartwatch will be made of that.
The next Apple Watch SE may be made of that material. But when can we expect it?
An Apple Watch SE made of plastic
Many people were expecting a new version of the Apple Watch SE during It’s Glowtime last week, but it didn’t come. The iPhone maker released a new Series 10, in both aluminum and titanium, and came out with a new color for the Ultra 2.
The company is still developing a new SE. Indeed, the material of the future version could possibly change if Bloomberg is to be believed. The company would opt for plastic.

This is a bold choice, as plastic is not exactly known as a material as sturdy as aluminum. Still, there does seem to be an idea behind it. By using plastic, the price can come down, making the Apple Watch SE of interest to a larger audience. This allows the company to compete with cheaper alternatives.
Apple seems to be targeting schoolchildren in particular. Cell phones are banned in more and more schools, making a plastic Apple Watch SE a good and affordable alternative.
Here’s when to expect it
Users who still want aluminum then can go for the regular Apple Watch Series model. In that case, it will be the choice between the Series 11 and the new SE. If all goes according to plan, it should launch next fall. That promises to be a busy year, as since the company didn’t announce an Ultra 3 at the last event, it also looks to make its reprise next year.
The plan seemed to be to release an SE as early as this year, yet it does not appear to be that simple. According to Bloomberg, Apple faced cost and quality issues. Those problems now seem to be over, as Apple wants to go ahead with the model after all.
